What now for Govanhill Baths? Govanhill Baths Community Trust 99 Calder Street, G42 7RA Glasgow, United Kingdom Closed for more than 15 years, the Baths has had a renewed life as a vibrant and well-used arts, culture, and wellbeing venue for Govanhill and the wider Southside. After all those years of campaigning, the money has finally been secured to refurbish and reopen the facility as the Bath house it once was. With the old life as swimming facility and new life as creative hub colliding, what will the Baths look like at reopening in 2018? The clock is now ticking until closure changes the Baths forever. Join us for this panel event to discuss the new era of Govanhill Baths, asking difficult questions about the arts, wellbeing, and community empowerment in working class communities such as Govanhill. Panellists: Lesley Riddoch, award-winning journalist Aamer Anwar, leading human rights lawyer Loki, hip hop artist and writer Nicola Fisher, Save Our Pool campaigner and Vice President of EIS speaking in a personal capacity Chaired by poet Jim Monaghan

This event Will Be On youtube 2008: Oil at $147 / barrel 2015: Oil at $30 / barrel a public meeting to discuss the drivers for this rollercoaster and the impacts now and in the future. With Dr Alister Hamilton Register at https://oil25may.eventbrite.co.uk/ Dr Alister Hamilton, member of Transition Edinburgh, avid watcher of Peak Oil scenarios and Senior Lecturer in the University of Edinburgh School of Engineering will share his latest analysis of the data and the trends. Share your ideas too in a wide-ranging discussion on what all this means. The Ponzi Fracking schemes in the USA have depressed prices - but for how long? What does the current global glut mean for Peak Oil / Oil Depletion? What is really happening with OPEC and the Saudi super oil ministry? Will the transition to renewables - wind and solar - really cut demand? What is likely impact of electric vehicles on demand for oil? Would Unconventional Gas extracted from mainland Britain really be cheap? Mary Church, Head of Campaigns for Friends of the Earth Scotland, will respond and draw out the key issues to watch. All welcome. Some refreshments available if you arrive in good time before 6.30!

Alan Rankine (born 17 May 1958) is a Such a great interview coming up for you on Monday 16th May, 12pm, with Alan Rankine - the musical brains behind The Associates. What can you write or say about the Associates that hasn't already been covered or documented? We'll leave it to Björk... "The Associates went there. They didn't edit their nature out of it. They had pagan qualities. I read a book about Billy MacKenzie, and it said that all the lyrics were composed in the moment, not written down, like a stream of consciousness. For Medulla, I thought about using Billy MacKenzie's voice, and his father sent me old multi-tracks, the original tapes, and I wanted to work on it, celebrating voices, maybe do a duet with him. But when it came to it, I was too sacred."

Siobhan Tolland interviews Jason Michael who spent 9 months observing the twitter accounts of prominent Scottish Unionists. What he found was disturbing- if not surprising. The relationship between Scottish Unionism, British nationalism and the American ultra-right was strong and clear. Siobhan & Jason discuss the implications of this and what this means for the independence movement generally- how we tackle this creeping insidious rascist intolerance. #HKS17 Houses are not just walls with price tags. Houses are homes, which are the centre of communities, and it is communities which form places. The Housekeeping Scotland Convention is the start of a long term Common Weal project aiming to build a genuinely transformative agenda for housing in Scotland that re-establishes homes as the beating heart of communities and places, not as financial assets for speculative gains. This project therefore seeks to address the two facets of the housing crisis, equally pervasive: an economic one, with sky-high rents and ever-rising inequality between those with property and those without, and an alienation one, with new housing built without community in mind and the forces of gentrification and under-investment displacing and undermining communities within our built environment. This twin crisis fused together in the tragedy of Grenfell tower, which if it does not act as a spur to fundamentally change our approach to homes, communities and places nothing will. The aim is to have good housing with the infrastructure and public amenities that make good communities – then we can give people great homes and great communities in which to make a home. Speakers confirmed: Professor Richard Murphy Robin McAlpine Malcolm Fraser Sarah Glynn Neil Sutherland Professor David Adams Clare Symonds Kirsten Carter McKee Andy Wightman Najimee Parveen Amanda Burgauer Chris Cook Susie Fitton More Speakers and full convention timetable TBC. Interview with Richard Murphy Siobhan Tolland interviews Prof. Richard Murphy about Scotland's future

Economist, academic, accountant, journalist and tax justice activist, Richard sees leaving the UK as the only way for Scotland to reach its full economic and human potential. However, he feels we need to address issues regarding currency, investment and taxation to win the case for independence. The interview will look at the fundamental problems of the GER's report. They will also discuss the Scottish Investment Bank and its potential for developing an independent Scottish economy.

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. (2016 Scottish parliament, 2017 Scottish council, 2019 English council and 2020 General election.) Join us on the Square with the message, #Indyref2 2018.

HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

ALSO here for protesters live stream within the danger zone http://livestre.am/5dlJI Highly contentious issue with many locals against the blowing up of these 6 flats at once and want them brought down floor by floor. BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.
