Welcome to Independence Live. We are a collective of citizen livestreamers, mostly based in Scotland, who produce live video at events, which the mainstream media will not cover. We have livestreamed over 900 events since November 2013 and all for FREE. Our complete video archive can be found here. Our success and continued growth is down to the dedication of our volunteers and the support of our viewers. We cover political, social and cultural events and news stories in Scotland but also across the globe using Skype livestreams with our foreign citizen correspondents.

69 Free All Catalan Political Prisoners Organised by the ANC Scotland

Prison is the Spanish judiciary’s response to the ousted Catalan government’s independence roadmap, despite repeated calls for dialogue and mediation in the past few weeks by Puigdemont’s cabinet. Spain’s National Court provisionally jailed eight dismissed Catalan ministers without bail on Thursday. Beginning with vice president, Oriol Junqueras, all the deposed officials who appeared in the Madrid court will spend the night behind bars. The officials are charged with rebellion, sedition and misuse of public funds. The only exception was former business minister, Santi Vila, who stepped down from his post after disagreeing with the declaration of independence. In a different ruling, Vila was ordered to be held pending a €50,000 bail payment. Apart from Junqueras, the officials held in custody without bail are the ministers of Home Affairs (Joaquim Forn), Foreign Affairs (Raül Romeva), Governance (Meritxell Borràs), Presidency (Jordi Turull), Social Affairs (Dolors Bassa), Justice (Carles Mundó) and Territory (Josep Rull). In all, the eight jailed officials were sent to five different prisons in the Madrid region. On the orders of the judge, Junqueras and Forn were sent to the Estremera prison, Turull and Romeva to the prison of Valdemoro, Rull to the Navalcarnero penitentiary, Mundó and Vila to Aranjuez, while the female ministers, Bassa and Borràs have gone to Alcalá prison. However they are not the only ones to have ended up in prison over the past few weeks because of the independence roadmap. The judge who ordered the jailing of the officials is the the same who on October 16 ordered the heads of Catalonia’s two main civil pro-independence organizations, Jordi Sànchez and Jordi Cuixart, to be remanded in custody. It is also the same National Court judge considering a prosecutor’s request to issue an international arrest warrant for Catalan president Carles Puigdemont and his four ministers who fled to Brussels. Justifying her decision to jail the former Catalan government members, the judge argued that their decision to declare independence amounts to causing an uprising in Spain’s sovereign territory. She also said the mobilization of the public by the independence movement was intimidation of Spain’s security forces, who were in Catalonia to ensure the law was carried out.

88 The Pots & Pans Revolution, Re-heated; Iceland’s Constitutional Comeback Katrin Oddsdottir presents the latest from the efforts to get the crowd-sourced Icelandic constitution ratified.

Iceland's Crowd Sourced Constitution was kicked into touch by politicians in 2011 -- but it's making a comeback. Katrin Oddsdóttir was one of 25 members of the Constitution Council of Iceland, which drafted the new constitution in a process recognised worldwide for its emphasis on democratic methods and social media tools. The draft constitution contains clauses on environmental protection, highlights international human rights law and the rights of refugees and migrants, and proposes a redistribution of Iceland’s natural resources – notably fishing. Oddsdóttir has been a political activist from early age, but became well known in Iceland after delivering a radical political speech at mass protests after the economic crash in 2009, while studying law. She currently works as a human rights lawyer at Rettur - Adalsteinsson & Partners law firm in Iceland, concentrating on the rights of refugees, disabled people and children, among other related fields. She has an MA in Human Rights from the University of London and a BA in law from Reykjavik University. Oddsdóttir has a BA in journalism from Dublin City University and has worked as a journalist and copy writer. Could Iceland provide a model for Scotland?

Against Spanish State Repression - Stand with Catalunya, organised by Edinburgh in Protest. We will be again protesting in front of the consulate against the authoritarian Spanish state and in Solidarity with Catalunya. We are protesting against a state that is criminalizing the right to protest and to free speech through mechanisms like the Gag Law. A State that imprisons journalists, musicians, citizens and members from social movements. And now, a state that is forbidding a referendum in Catalunya, and only uses violence and repression as a response. Today, we need to show our solidarity for all the imprisoned and demand our rights to decide in this so-called 'democratic' system. PS. Catalans in Edinburgh call citizens to demonstrate support for democracy in Catalonia

61 Stop State repression in Catalonia #HandsOffCatalonia Catalans in Edinburgh call citizens to demonstrate support for democracy in Catalonia

Enough is enough! No more State repression in Catalonia! Two leaders of Catalan organisations are now in prison in Madrid, without bail, to await trial on charges of sedition: - Jordi Sànchez, president of the Catalan National Assembly, the biggest pro-independence civic organisation, founded in 2012. - Jordi Cuixart, president of d'Òmnium Cultural, an organisation founded in 1961 to promote Catalan language and culture. (Òmnium Cultural was banned for some years under Franco -- Catalan was banned from use in schools and public administration from 1939 to 1975, while publishing in Catalan was heavily restricted.) The charges of sedition are based on them encouraging demonstrations against Spanish state institutions. The head of the Catalan police, Josep Lluís Trapero, is facing similar charges, but is not yet in prison; instead his passport has been confiscated and he is forbidden from leaving Spanish territory. Charges against Trapero allege that the Catalan police should have taken more forceful action against demonstrators and against voters in the referendum.

#HKS17 Houses are not just walls with price tags. Houses are homes, which are the centre of communities, and it is communities which form places. The Housekeeping Scotland Convention is the start of a long term Common Weal project aiming to build a genuinely transformative agenda for housing in Scotland that re-establishes homes as the beating heart of communities and places, not as financial assets for speculative gains. This project therefore seeks to address the two facets of the housing crisis, equally pervasive: an economic one, with sky-high rents and ever-rising inequality between those with property and those without, and an alienation one, with new housing built without community in mind and the forces of gentrification and under-investment displacing and undermining communities within our built environment. This twin crisis fused together in the tragedy of Grenfell tower, which if it does not act as a spur to fundamentally change our approach to homes, communities and places nothing will. The aim is to have good housing with the infrastructure and public amenities that make good communities – then we can give people great homes and great communities in which to make a home. Catalan Defence Committee 21D rally at Holyrood a rally standing in solidarity with the democratic process in Catalonia

The Catalan Defence Committee (Scotland) are calling a rally at the Scottish Parliament to stand in solidarity with the people of Catalonia on the day of the vital election taking place there. The intimidation and the brutal repression against the right to Catalan self determination is now entering a new phase, with the Spanish state strangling Catalan civil society and even announcing that they will ban international observers at the election. It is vital that all democrats come together to say that the world is watching.

Hope Over Fear are organizing this 2015 event to coincide with the anniversary of the referendum and to make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues. Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2. Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard. 2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border. (2016 Scottish parliament, 2017 Scottish council, 2019 English council and 2020 General election.) Join us on the Square with the message, #Indyref2 2018.

HOPE OVER FEAR: SEIZE THE DAY RALLY George Square, Glasgow. Lots of great speakers including Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver plus great music...

The Hope Over Fear campaign will not shirk its responsibilities. On May 7th 2015 we have a unique opportunity in Scotland to wipe out the blue, yellow and red Tories in one fell swoop. We can electorally punish those who lined up with the billionaires and millionaires to lie, deceive and bully our nation into submission. We are not too small, too poor or too scared to move forward into a new and better world and by uniting the pro-Scotland and anti-Establishment vote in May 2015 we can realise our dreams. Bring the family and enjoy another great day out while listening to the speakers from all political backgrounds and on the importance of using your vote wisely at the general election. There will also be many amazingly talented artists and musicians for you to enjoy on the day. In the words of Gerry Cinnamon's inspiring anthem of our movement, "Hope Over Fear, Carpe Diem". Let’s seize the day in 2015. NOTE: Mark McGowan, The Artist Taxi Driver will be one of the speakers :) FACEBOOK EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/401561463337441/

Red Road Flats Demolition RED ALERT DANGER DANGER Covering the controversial demolition of the Red Road Flats

ALSO here for protesters live stream within the danger zone http://livestre.am/5dlJI Highly contentious issue with many locals against the blowing up of these 6 flats at once and want them brought down floor by floor. The flats could still contain asbestos; they are very close to residential areas including a nursery and there is worry about water and gas pipes being burst. See WikiPedia link for more info and criticism of previous Red Row flats that have been blown up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Road_Flats

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 Around 1:30 - 3:30pm BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice!

BBC Bias Peaceful Protest #2 - The People's Voice! Sunday, June 29 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm BBC Scotland Studios, Pacific Quay G51 1 Glasgow, United Kingdom This is a protest against bias from the self-proclaimed “impartial” BBC. The most important issue we need to highlight is the repeated omission of relevant facts, information & answers that has kept Scotland in the dark about the real independence debate. The BBC’s coverage is ruining the run up to the biggest decision in our history. People are suitably sickened by the BBC & other mainstream media and their one sided conveyor belt of scare stories portrayed against our economic prospects, EU membership and the currency of an independent Scotland. Sometimes the bias is not in what they do cover but what they don't cover in their news & current affairs programmes. Specific examples of bias that concerns us are as follows: Make up of Question Time panels. Irish & Luxembourg EU ministers views misrepresented. UKIP promotion during EU elections. University of the West of Scotland report on bias on evening news programmes (BBC & STV) University of the West of Scotland report on bias on Radio Scotland Good Morning Scotland show The BBC's membership of the CBI which opposes independence and even tried to become an official member of the no campaign until a U turn after a mass cancellation of membership by Scottish companies. Different styles of questioning for Yes/No including more frequent interruptions from interviewers. The list goes on… Let's keep up the pressure on the old BBC and arrange their next outing as a massive anti-bias operation! Bring your saltires, banners, balloons, friends, family and loud voices. Make it a day to remember! Everyone is welcome from both sides of the debate. Groups that wish to protest about other instances of BBC bias unrelated to the independence debate are also more than welcome to attend.
