Ewan studied at Glasgow University in the …1960s, graduating with a degree in legal theory, and thereafter worked as a solicitor in general practice for over forty years, while also teaching law part time for many years. He has supported Independence since 2010 and contributed to the Referendum by curating the Auld Acquaintance cartoon show in Glasgow city centre. He lives in Argyll and involves himself in environmental matters.

In advance of the upcoming Yestival event taking place in George Square on the historic date of 18th September 2022, Mark will be joined by Tommy Sheridan, and Graham Dallas better known as singer songwriter Pepper Jock.

The annual event in the heart of Scotland’s largest city, has taken place every year possible since 2014, and vows to do so until the control of Scotland is returned to the people of Scotland, this year however the event has joined forces with Graham and the team behind the Yestival events, in making this years gathering a key date within the Yestival tour across Scotland.

As always the event will be joined with very special guest speakers, but most importantly it will be a proud line-up of musicians and entertainers from across Scotland. All of which offering up their free time and hard work to provide what is set to be a fantastic free show to the people of the Yes city of Glasgow.

This years event has been sponsored by a vast number of local grassroots groups from all over the country, many of which will be in attendance with stalls for your perusal.

So join us on Thursday 15th September at 7pm LIVE on the one and only Independence Live, where you can ask your questions to the hardworking team behind this event and many more which you can see in your own towns and cities, in the run up to the next referendum in 2023.

Sara is a mother, a grandmother, a …writer, activist, former tv writer/producer and college
teacher.

As a writer/producer, Sara has worked for three of the major broadcast companies in the UK and a number of high profile, corporate clients including Scottish Power, the Health
Education Board for Scotland and, not least!, the Scottish National Party, (party election and party political broadcasts), as well as the European Free Alliance. She has managed two independent TV production companies, and was the investigator and producer for two short-listed documentaries (Channel 4 and BBC), and one award winning documentary for the BBC.

Sara has also taught in the USA from 2009 to 2014, creating her own syllabus for classrooms of ‘non traditional’ college students, then taught communications in Fife College from 2015 to 2017.

She won a US national college teaching award in 2011 and published an
academic paper which examined the way in which formal English is taught as ‘proper’ English and the effect of this approach on students.

Sara joined the SNP in 1985 campaigning, leafleting and standing for Council election and re-joined the party on her return from the USA to Scotland in 2014. She has since joined Alba as a founder member and is presently working, with other writers and researchers, on a project to restore the sovereignty of the Scottish people, (unlawfully replaced by UK parliamentary sovereignty), under the ratified provisions of the Claim of Right.

Building the Scottish State Show: Series 1 – Episode 34 – Tommy Sheridan

On this week’s show, Dr Mark McNaught is joined by Tommy Sheridan.
Mr Sheridan is a former MSP (Scottish …Socialist Party) and is the current convener of the Solidarity Party. He was a leading contributor in the establishing of the Scottish Socialist Alliance in 1996, which evolved into the Scottish Socialist Party (SSP) in 1998. He then became the convener of the party, and was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999 as a Glasgow representative and re-elected in 2003. During which time he co-published ‘Imagine’ an outline of the principles of socialism for a modern era.

Tommy was also active in implementing long-needed changes in Scottish law, including the Abolition of Feudal Tenure etc. (Scotland) Act 2000 and the Abolition of Poindings and Warrant Sales Act 2001, which he introduced as bills in Holyrood on 6 December 2001

Mr Sheridan, continues to be a major campaigner for Scottish Independence, and in 2013 founded the Hope Over Fear campaign, on the purpose to target the communities, estates, and villages that were being missed by the official Yes campaign. During which time Tommy addressed 121 public meetings and spoke to thousands of potential yes citizens all across Scotland. The Hope Over Fear group has promised to continue campaigning, which includes an annual rally at George Square to continue the demand for Scotland’s freedom.

Writer and broadcaster Billy Kay was born …in Galston, Ayrshire in 1951, and educated at Galston High School, Kilmarnock Academy and Edinburgh University. His company Odyssey Productions produces documentaries on Scottish cultural history for BBC Radio Scotland, winning five international awards for series like The Complete Caledonian Imbiber. Television series he has presented include Haud Yer Tongue for Channel 4 Schools and Miners for BBC Scotland. He has written two plays for radio and one for Dundee Rep, while his poetry and short stories appear in several anthologies. He is co-author, with Cailean Maclean of the book Knee Deep in Claret and his work promoting wine has been recognized with awards in Britain and France.
He is a passionate advocate of the Scots language and author of the classic work Scots: The Mither Tongue. His latest book on the phenomenal global influence of the Scottish diaspora The Scottish World was published in 2006.
A gifted communicator, Billy Kay has been invited to speak on Scottish culture at venues ranging from the Library of Congress in Washington DC to the Moscow Caledonian Club, and from the Great Hall of Stirling Castle to Universites in Heidelberg, Warsaw and Belfast.

Billy was given an honorary Doctorate by the University of the West of Scotland in 2009, the Oliver Award by the Scots Independent newspaper in 2010 and later that year became Honorary Preses of the Scots Language Society. In 2015 the Association for Scottish Literary Studies made him an Honorary Fellow “in recognition and admiration of the valued and major contribution which you have made to the support and enrichment of the tradition of Scottish literature.” In 2016 he was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame for his Services to Scots. In 2019 he was voted Scots Media Person of the Year at the Scots Language Awards in Glasgow. In November of that year he addressed the 263rd Annual Banquet of the St Andrew’s Society of the State of New York. There, the Society gave him their Mark Twain Award for the promotion of Scotland internationally. In addition to his native languages, Scots and English, Billy speaks French, German and Portuguese. He is married to Maria João de Almeida da Cruz Diniz and they have three children, Joanna, Catriona and Euan.

Mr Wardell, who …is well known for his writings under the Grouse Beater blog site describes his own background:

“I am from what used to be called a ‘broken home’. I ran away a lot. Now I am described as a polymath and a ‘self-made man’. There’s a cliché for everybody and everything. My background is Edinburgh-born and educated, Catholic and Jewish. I am half-Sicilian, half-Irish. My vocation began as a student of theatre, (and studied philosophy), teacher in Glasgow and then lecturer in drama, (Distinction) in Edinburgh, broadcaster for BBC and commercial radio, to founder-artistic director of a national theatre still flourishing. I was a few years an unhappy BBC television executive producer, London, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Recently I devoted myself to work as a producer-writer-doctor of filmed drama, and lately an obsessive essayist and polemicist. For relaxation I design gardens and help plant them, currently a Roman garden on Roman archaeological ground.”

“Extensive experience in the arts in Scotland, England, and abroad, particularly the USA, has given me a perspective of Scotland’s political and social deficiencies. And they are legion. Scotland is too long a colonised country. My vocation spans theatre production, radio, television, film and journalism. At one time I wrote for US car magazines. I wrote the Louis Vuitton Guide to Los Angeles (not the restaurant section) while still in Edinburgh and to a month’s deadline! Most recent books are published by the Royal Academy of Arts in London, in addition to ESSAYS and ESSAYS 2, collections of essays published in various Internet sites, magazines and newspapers, (available from me direct or Amazon) a third book on adventures in LaLa Land now a work in progress.”

On the night of the Scottish Local Elections 2022, Dr Mark McNaught is joined by Kenny …MacAskill MP.

Kenny is the current Depute Leader of the Alba Party, following a vote from the party members at the recent inaugural party conference at Greenock Town Hall. Kenny is the MP for East Lothian, from which he was elected in the 2019 UK General Election for the SNP party, prior to leaving the party to join the Alba party in March 2021.

Prior to his current position, Kenny was elected as an MSP in 1999 upon the re-opening of the Scottish Parliament, from which remained until 2016. During this tenure, Kenny, would become the Depute Leader of the SNP, as well as serving as Shadow Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning, Shadow Minister for Transport and Telecommunications, and Shadow Minister for Justice, before taking up the position of Cabinet Secretary for Justice following the 2007 Scottish Elections. It was in this role, from which he oversaw the controversial transfer of convicted terrorist Abdelbaset al-Megrahi to his native Libya.

Mr MacAskill was born in Edinburgh and was educated at Linlithgow Academy before studying law at the University of Edinburgh, gaining an LLB (Hons) degree. After completing his training at a firm in Glasgow, he set up Erskine MacAskill.
